\nMorning felt like an ungraceful
\nattempt to pull myself
\nonto the side of a swimming pool<\/p>\n
\nI wanted to dream of sash windows,
\niced coffee mixing with milk \/ a yellow cup
\nand buttercream, the cold air hitting
\nthe room kindly<\/p>\n
\nI was asked to draw around
\nmy silhouette in profile \/ I was shocked
\nand frightened by the shape of my nose<\/p>\n
\nI wondered how to make
\nmy life better and concluded that all
\nI needed was a white apartment
\nand a couple of chairs, three slices
\nof quiche \/ a lily pad of desire<\/p>\n
\nIt was too cold to go in the sea
\nbut too warm to wear a coat<\/p>\n
\nI touched white scarves
\nuntil I became vanilla<\/p>\n
\nLike seagulls roosting
\non thin ledges, bridges,
\neveryone was pregnant or dying
\nor wrongly visiting a deli counter
\nlooking for the perfect peach<\/p>\n
\nI took a photo of my silhouette \/ it was a friend
\ncovering their face with an umbrella,
\nblue and white striped curtains
\nknocking over a vase \/ a woman leaving
\nthe pharmacy crying<\/p>\n
\nI tapped the powder from a custard
\ndoughnut onto a plate,
\nit was like being given permission
\nto grow my body hair \/ it had something to do with respect<\/p>\n
