Undelicate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He plays love with her,<\/p>\n<p>plays fetch, plays harm.<\/p>\n<p>He likes her to suck his fingers,<\/p>\n<p>He likes her to smile, always.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Boyfriend likes to use the biggest knife<\/p>\n<p>to slice Girlfriend\u2019s strawberries, likes to see<\/p>\n<p>the red of them against the lap of white at her throat.<\/p>\n<p>Boyfriend confesses how much he loves Girlfriend<\/p>\n<p>to the mirror. He whispers the names of the others<\/p>\n<p>he loves, but can never change the channel on the remote.<\/p>\n<p>Boyfriend watches Girlfriend instead of television.<\/p>\n<p>He turns the ceiling light on and off to see just what she will do,<\/p>\n<p>lights up the room bright to check she is still breathing.<\/p>\n<p>Off and On.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Natalie Crick (Newcastle) has poems published in <em>Poetry Salzburg Review<\/em>, <em>The Moth<\/em>, <em>Banshee<\/em> and elsewhere. She is studying for an MPhil (Creative Writing) at Newcastle University.\u00a0 Natalie\u2019s poetry was commended in the Verve Poetry Festival Competition 2020.
