Alpa Shah exposes the\u00a0personal stories and shocking truth behind the arrests of the\u00a0Bhima Koregaon 16 \u2013 professors, lawyers, journalists, poets\u00a0fighting for the rights of India\u2019s three main minorities \u2013 Adivasi,\u00a0Dalits and Muslims \u2013 who have been imprisoned, without\u00a0credible evidence and without trial. The case challenges India\u2019s\u00a0freedom of speech, of movement; the right to land, religion,\u00a0language, and culture.<\/p>\n<p>Essential and urgent,\u00a0<em>The Incarcerations<\/em>\u00a0reveals how this case is a bellwether for the collapse of\u00a0democracy in India and discusses its ramifications for the future\u00a0of human rights around the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alpa Shah<\/strong>\u00a0is the award-winning author of\u00a0<em>Nightmarch: Among India\u2019s Revolutionary\u00a0Guerrillas<\/em>\u00a0(Hurst, 2018) shortlisted for the Orwell\u00a0Prize for Political Writing, 2019.\u00a0<em>In the Shadows\u00a0of the State<\/em>\u00a0(Duke, 2010) and co-author of\u00a0<em>Ground Down by Growth<\/em>\u00a0(Pluto, 2017). She has\u00a0written and presented for BBC Radio 4\u00a0<em>Crossing\u00a0Continents<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>From Our Own Correspondent<\/em>.
