Killing Thatcher: Rory Carroll in conversation with Sinéad Morrissey
at The Culture Lab Newcastle

This event features author Rory Carroll in conversation with Sinéad Morrissey as they talk about his new book, Killing Thatcher: the IRA, the Manhunt and the Long War on the Crown.

Brighton, 1984: the IRA come astonishingly close to killing Margaret Thatcher and to wiping out the British Cabinet – an extraordinary assassination attempt linked to the Northern Ireland Troubles and the most daring conspiracy against the Crown since the Gunpowder Plot. In a gripping blend of true crime and political history Killing Thatcher: the IRA, the Manhunt and the Long War on the Crown investigates the story behind the bombing.

Rory Carroll is the Guardian’s Ireland correspondent and has reported from the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq, Africa, Latin America and the United States. His first book, Comandante: Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela, was an Economist Book of the Year and BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week.

Sinéad Morrissey is Professor of Creative Writing at Newcastle University.

This event took place in the Culture Lab on the 17th of October 2024
